The Evangeline Parish School District hosted its annual Work-Based Learning Appreciation Luncheon Thursday, March 16, at the Northside Civic Center.
Students and parish-wide businesses that participated in the program were recognized and treated to a delicious meal served by Jahn Montelaro and students of Mamou High School.
Dot Doulet (transition specialist), Kelli Lafleur (special education director) and Tracy Jagneaux (transition instructor) each briefly discussed the program and thanked those who participated this year.
Jorie Randle (E CLIP facilitator) introduced Evangeline Parish Assessor Chris Guillory as the guest speaker for the program.
Those in attendance enjoyed a slide show of the students enjoying themselves at work, which was put together by Keith Scott, special education supervisor. Additional entertainment was provided by the Evangeline Parish Jazz Band.
Jude Burton, owner of Rhea’s Specialty Meats and Smokehouse in Basile, presented the Outstanding Work-Based Student of the Year honor to his worker, Traveon Cortez, a student at Basile High School.
Students participating in the program were:
Basile High School - William Comeaux and Traveon Cortez.
Pine Prairie High School - Da’Jon Lemalle, Jovonta Ben, Coby Bonnette, Gavin Clark, Monique Gallow and Ariel Holmes.
Mamou High School - Katrina Godfrey, Tiffany Coker, Brylon Jones, Justin Rollins, Marquanna Roberts and Raylon Thomas.
Ville Platte High School - Jaylah Herron, Jobe Brunet, Sakorien Celestine, Naima Edwards, Za’Briontray Fontenot, Jeremiah Leday, Delveyon Richard, Summer Fruge, Jakhalan Slaughter, Tyriannia Thomas, Ra’Vontae Alfred, Terion Ardoin-Thomas, Angel Wilson, Libbee Soileau, Jala Stelly, Franco Viveros, Marshanna Roberts, Sawyer Jagneaux and Trent Smith.
Area businesses participating in the program were:
Basile High School - Basile Public Library and Rhea’s Specialty Meats and Smokehouse.
Pine Prairie High School - Bayou Chicot Elementary, Fontenot’s Grocery, TJ’s Tire Shop and Pine Prairie High School.
Mamou High School - Mamou High School, Mamou Elementary and Lyon’s Market.
Ville Platte High School - Council on Aging, Ville Platte Elementary, Ville Platte High School, Vidrine’s Ace Hardware, James Stephens Montessori, EPSB Warehouse, Ville Platte Public Library, Sassy’s Creations, EPSB Media Center, Champagne’s and Evangeline Ville Platte Recreation District.
