Mystery at the Museum: $25,000 Reward Still Offered for Alabama Artifacts
It was the heist of the century. In the spring of 1980, thieves crept away with 70% of the museum-quality native American artifacts housed at the Erskine Ramsey Repository at Moundville Archaeological Park. For 20 years, the heist was kept hidden from the public, until a University of Alabama professor came forward in 2003 with an appeal for the public's help. To this day, only three of the relics have been found. The location of the rest remains a mystery, but some scholars believe they may still be in Alabama.
