It's on to the Super Regional round in the NCAA Baseball Championships for the University of Oregon as the Ducks are expected to host in PK Park.
But after a long season that included a number of ups and downs, Oregon rose to the occasion in the Nashville Regional.
The Ducks overcame the doubts of their struggling pitching rotation and got timely contributions from newcomers while veteran leaders led the way offensively to knock off Xavier for a sixth time this season.
Now, for the first time in 11 years, Oregon is heading back to the Super Regional. And to top it all off, they achieved that feat with former Ducks head coach George Horton in attendance.
Current Oregon head coach Mark Wasikowski said, "His reason why he came to Oregon was to get Oregon to Omaha. And it was probably one of the things that was just kind of left on the table for him that I know still bugs him to this day.
“We love Coach dearly, and Coach flew in with Pat and a couple others for this Regional. And for them to watch these kids play and play their hearts out with a lot of adversity going on and still be able to pull that off, that's really special."
The Ducks will now match up with Oral Roberts who are coming out of the Stillwater Regional in Oklahoma where they beat Oklahoma State, Washington, and Dallas Baptist.
