A third person was recognized forsaving George Koskela’s lifeafter he collapsed in the lobby of the Olive Garden in Eugene.
While shopping at the nearby Barnes and Noble, Cyndy Meno got an alert on her Pulse Point App that someone had collapsed at the Olive Garden.
Meno is certified in CPR and is also an EMS instructor at Lane Community College.
She stopped what she was doing and ran across the parking lot, into the lobby of Olive Garden, where two employees were performing CPR already. She offered to jump in and continue until Eugene Springfield Fire arrived.
The EMS coordinator at Lane Community College, Kris Siewer, says she happened to be at the right place at the right time.
“Her willingness to just drop everything, run across the parking lot, and start CPR on a complete stranger,” he said. “It just shows that not only is she teaching the next generation of EMT’s, but she’s also living the life. She's there she's willing to drop everything at a moment’s notice."
Meno was presented with the HEARTsaver award by Koskela and his wife while she was teaching a course.
She and two Olive Garden employees were presented with the award for saving Koskela’s life.
