Members of SEIU 503, Oregon's Public Services and Care Provider Union, took to the streets on Saturday, Mar. 25, to protest for livable wages and better benefits.
Homecare and Personal Support Workers across the state are participating in a "Hometown Actions" protest as members bargain for a new and improved two-year contract.
The protests took place across 19 cities in Oregon, including Coos Bay, Klamath Falls, Bend, and Eugene.
The Eugene rally took place at the Eugene Park Blocks.
We spoke with a Springfield resident who tells us she was a healthcare worker for many years until she began needing care herself 15 years ago.
"It's so important for me because my caregivers help me live my life much fuller," Said Tara Davee, a Springfield Resident. "I'm a very independent thinker. I just lost my spouse on Wednesday, and it's still important that I be here because I wouldn't be here today without the help I get from them.
All 72,000 public services workers ask for $25 per hour, better hours, and respect.
