Early Saturday morning, Eugene Police officers responded to a medical emergency, aiding a man who had stopped breathing.

EPD says at 1:49 a.m., a person called 911 to report that a family member was unresponsive and had stopped breathing, that call aired of the radio and was heard by nearby Eugene Police units.

Officers realized they were close to the address already and knew medics were further out, so they responded in "emergency mode."

Authorities arrived on scene at 1:53 a.m. and began CPR before using a defibrillator on the man. EPD says the man regained a pulse. Soon after medics quickly arrived, stabilized the patient and transported him to a local hospital.

Eugene-Springfield Fire sent a note to Eugene Police, thanking the five EPD officers who responded to the scene, saying the officers did an "awesome job." The note recognized officers’ performance of CPR, application of AED, and that officers even moved the patient to the living room to provide medics adequate working space.
