Voters to decide on Eugene's natural gas ban

EUGENE, Ore. —
A petition to send Eugene's natural gas ban to a public vote has been certified, the Eugene City Recorder confirmed Friday.

The Eugene City Recorder said it was not certified in time to make the May ballot, but is qualified for the November election.

This means the city must hold off on carrying out the gas ban ordinance until the public votes.
On Feb. 6, The Eugene City Council voted 5-3 to pass an ordinance banning natural gas infrastructure in new low-rise residential buildings.

Eugene was the first city in Oregon to have put forth a natural gas ban.
