There is still no update on the status of a new multi-use facility and baseball stadium at the site of the Lane Events Center.
According to the current timeline, which has previously been pushed back, the Lane County Board of Commissioners is expected to make a decision on the site at some point during the summer.
A spokesperson for the county said more information on the project will likely come in late spring/early summer.
The Eugene Emeralds' focus on the Lane Events Center as a possible spot for their new stadium began in early 2021, and the county commissioners have been considering the proposal in earnest since November 2022. A 2 percent increase to the countywide transient lodging tax went into effect Jan. 1 with the increased revenue expected to eventually go towards funding the new stadium, if it ultimately gets approved.
According to the Lane County website, "analysis of the feasibility of siting a multi-use facility at the Events Center continues as the Design/Build team studies site options and refines cost estimates." The county's website says construction would begin sometime this year, at the earliest.
The Emeralds need to move into a new stadium before the 2025 season, and further delays could threaten the status of the longtime Eugene minor league franchise.
