Southbound lanes on Interstate 5 between Albany and Eugene were closed for about six hours on Saturday due to a crash.

A 50-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash Saturday on Interstate 5 between Albany and Eugene that caused southbound lanes to close for about six hours, according to Oregon State Police.

State police said a 2022 Freightliner and trailer went off the road near milepost 210 just after 3 p.m. Saturday and hit the guardrail and bridge cement barrier on I-5 southbound. The driver, Branden Hamilton, of Buffalo, New York, died at the scene, police said.

The cause of the crash is unknown, but investigators said the operator may have suffered from a medical event prior to the crash.
