The trophy case at Lane Community College is running out of space these days.
The Titans are making room for another piece of hardware after the women's basketball team won their 6th NWAC championship in school history on Sunday.
LCC returned to Eugene Monday after a dominating 72-52 victory over Green River College Sunday in Pasco, Wash.
In their four tournament games, the Titans won each contest by an average of over 18 points.
After a heartbreaking loss in the Final Four last season, Head Coach Greg Sheley said he was especially happy for the third-year sophomores that dealt with a Covid-interrupted season to start their college careers.
"I would say that that's what I'm going to remember the most - those sophomores,” Sheley said. “What they had to go through and the grind to get to this is going to be something to remember."
"It's honestly been surreal,” said sophomore guard Sierra Scheppele. “Even as of now, it just feels like we've earned it throughout this whole season. It wasn't just one individual moment. I think every single one of our players contributed in every way in practice and in games. I think that's what led us to a championship."
Scheppele led the Titans with 18 points in Sunday's title win.
Future Oregon Duck Bella Hamel had 17 points and was named tournament MVP.
