The Oregon Softball Team had a strong start against the 5th ranked Cardinal, but a tough sixth inning allowed Stanford to come back and take the game and the series.
Vallery Wong got the Ducks started off with a line drive to left field bringing home Ariel Carlson. Then in the bottom of the fourth, Tehya Bird hit one up the middle and it was caught by Emily Young, but the ball slips and Hanna Delgado would score improving the lead to two.
But the Cardinal comes back to get two hits in the fifth and a hit in the sixth to put them on top, 3-2, taking the game and series in Eugene.
"I think we had plenty of opportunities. We lose by one run but we get our leadoff on five times, not able to come through. Could have looked different," said Ducks Head Coach Lombardi.
"There's a lot of good things that happened in this series as well. Stanford is a really good team and every inning was a back and forth battle. I think it really showed us what we're capable of,” said Ducks Senior Outfielder and Eugene native Ariel Carlson. “We were so close with them and we're tired of being so close. So, we can just use that as motivation to come out next weekend and you know, take one."
