Friday was the 2023 home opener for the Ducks, who played their first 25 games of the season away from Eugene.
While Oregon received a strong pitching performance from Stevie Hansen, mistakes on the bases proved costly to the Ducks, who lost against No.7 Stanford Friday night.
First inning was when Stanford go the edge when leadoff batter Taylor Gindlesperger tripled and came home on a sacrifice fly.
Though the Ducks managed to put runners on second and third in the second inning, they ran themselves out of a scoring opportunity when Hanna Delgado and Ariel Carlson were doubled up trying to advance.
In the third inning of the game Oregon tied up with Stanford when Terra McGowan scored from first on Allee Bunker’s double to deep left center.
Oregon Athletics said, "It was Bunker’s 43rd career double. That moved her past Janie Takeda Reed (42/2012-15) for second on the UO career doubles list. Bunker now trails only all-time leader Jenna Lilley (2015-18), who had 52 career doubles."
Hansen worked out of trouble all game long. She had at least one runner reach base in all five innings, but only allowed the lone run in the first inning. Hansen yielded seven hits while striking out two and walking one.
In the sixth inning of the game Morgan Scott came on as relief. Scott struck out the three of the first six batters subsequently having the game go into extra innings, the game no 1-1.
Stanford managed to get a couple of runs in the eighth inning, taking the game 3-1, to win the first game of the series.
