PANAMA CITY BEACH − Thousands more homes are on the horizon for a popular Jimmy Buffett-themed community near the Beach. According to a press release from Latitude Margaritaville Watersound, a second phase of development has been announced that will add about 3,500 homes, bringing the community's planned total to about 7,000 homes. Here's what we know: What is Latitude Margaritaville Watersound? Latitude Margaritaville Watersound is a 55-and-older community located near Panama City Beach in Bay County. It is being developed through a partnership between the St. Joe Company, Minto Communities USA and Margaritaville Holdings. The vibe of the community is inspired by the music and laid-back lifestyle of Jimmy Buffett. How many homes originally? The first phase of development also called for the construction of about 3,500 homes. Properties started hitting the market in 2021, and more than 2,600 homes had been sold as of Sept. 15, the release notes.
