Items have been stolen from an Estill County grave

IRVINE, Ky. (FOX 56) — An Estill County mother is asking for items to be returned that were stolen from her son’s grave from West Irvine cemetery.

Kristi Crowe says it’s been happening for almost two years.

A Cincinnati Reds baseball bat and solar lights that decorated Blakes Crowe’s grave were stolen on the day before the anniversary of his death. Crowe said she was angry the first time someone stole something but today she wonders why someone would stoop so low.

“Bee humble … Bee kind,” those words were Blake Crowe’s favorite saying. His mother Kristi Crowe wanted to do something special by placing solar bees at his gravesite in preparation for Memorial Day.

“That was his saying, so I had all kinds of solar bees and everything on his little grave and they stole every one of them the day before his anniversary visit. They’ve stole so much off of his grave, and I don’t understand why,” Crowe said.

Another thing her son loved was the Cincinnati Reds.

“He would go to opening day even if they were losing in last place, whatever. He was a major Reds fan. That was his team. He just loved it,” Crowe said.

Blake’s sister Chelsea brought a Reds bat with Blake’s name written on it to lay on top of his grave.

Blake’s sister Chelsea Hardy said, “I don’t see why someone would want to steal it, it says his full name on it. How could someone else have his full name? He’s one of a kind, he really is.”

All those items were missing from Blake’s grave when his mother came to visit the day before the two-year anniversary of his death.

“It’s heartbreaking because that’s my child in that ground right there that I had to bury, and this is what I get to do for him till I die is make sure that his grave is took care of. That’s something I can do for him and each time they take something from him, they’re taking it from my heart because he was my heart,” Crowe said.

Now the family prays the thieves will have a change of heart and bring back what was taken and have respect for their son and others buried in West Irvine Cemetery.

Crowe added that she had cameras in the trees after it all started but those also were stolen. Now she is raising money to install a good security camera around the cemetery.
