Grand Reopening at the Noel Wien Library
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - After a full year of renovations, the Noel Wien Public Library has finally reopened its doors in a Grand Reopening ceremony on Saturday. “We had approximately 280,000 items that were in our collection before we closed,” Library Director, Jamia Alexander Ball explained. “We boxed up a majority of that, and we had about seven or eight thousand boxes that were stored over at Joy Community Center. Those were brought over and then staff spent the last few months shelving those.”

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU) - Using their geothermal-powered hydroponic greenhouse, Chena Hot Springs Resort grows fresh produce year-round to use in its restaurant. When guests flip through the resort’s restaurant menu, they will see a variety of dishes that use “Chena Fresh” items, such as lettuce and tomatoes. To grow lettuce, Greenhouse Manager Emma Fisher notes that it takes between 50 to 70 days to harvest depending on the time of the year.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - A failed motion to acquit capped off day three of 47-year-old Chad Zurlo’s second-degree murder retrial Friday. Zurlo shot and killed his quasi-landlord Steven Corcoran in May 2014. The shooting took place in a doorless bedroom Zurlo was subletting inside the Gold Claim Avenue house Corcoran had been renting. Corcoran’s lease did not stipulate whether he could sublet.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for most areas north of the Alaska Range to the foothills of the Brooks Range and from the Canadian border to west of McGrath for low humidities, high temperatures and high winds.
