A barricade situation in Essex that lasted several hours has been peacefully resolved as of 4 p.m., according to police.

Shots were fired from inside a house in Essex amid a barricade situation, police said.

At 3 p.m., Baltimore County police spokeswoman Joy Stewart said officers were called around 11:10 a.m. Monday to the 900 block of Thompson Boulevard for a weapons incident.

Stewart said that barricade situation involved an armed man who fired some shots from the location. No injuries reported.

A portion of the Back River near the house was closed by police marine units as a precaution.

The barricade situation in Essex led to the lockouts of a couple schools nearby, but the schools were not in danger as a result of the barricade, Stewart said.

County police said Deep Creek Middle and Sandalwood Elementary schools were on lockout status, which means outside access to the school is restricted as a precaution, but activity inside the school takes place normally. Police said “all students are safe.”

The schools dismissed students on time.
