ECSO investigating self-defense claim after 16-year-old fatally shot in head
The Escambia County Sheriff's Office believes the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old on Friday on Murphy Lane may have been self defense.
ECSO spokesperson Morgan Lewis told the News Journal they learned in their investigation that two 16-year-olds were reportedly robbing people prior to the incident on Murphy Lane.
"We had two 16-year-olds in possession of weapons that were allegedly robbing individuals on Murphy Lane," Lewis said. "Someone called for help and a third individual arrived."

Lewis said after the third individual arrived, all three people began shooting, which ultimately led to one of the teens being shot and killed. The 16-year-old was transported to the hospital where he died of his injuries.
Authorities seized all three firearms, and investigators are investigating whether the third individual acted in self-defense.
