HARNETT COUNTY – A Pamlico County man died from injuries sustained in a two vehicle accident Monday morning in Harnett County. The crash was reported at 7:42am on Beaver Dam Road outside of Erwin.
Trooper D.R. Grady said a 1996 Toyota Camry driven by Drake Everett Day, age 32, of Merritt, NC was traveling northbound on Beaver Dam Road when he ran off the roadway to the right, overcorrected, and crossed the centerline into the path of a southbound utility truck operated by James Cody Moore, age 26, of Erwin.
Moore attempted to drive the utility truck off the roadway to the right to avoid the Toyota in his travel lane but the vehicles still collided head-on.
Day died at the scene. Moore was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
The roadway was closed for several hours while the accident was being investigated.
No charges were filed.
