Coroner IDs victim killed on French Street as Erie police review video in shooting probe

A 26-year-old Erie man killed early Saturday morning at a residence in the 2900 block of French Street died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death has been ruled a homicide, Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook said.

Cook identified the victim as Quran Sims. Cook ruled on the cause of death as his office was completing the autopsy on Monday afternoon.

Also on Monday, Erie police were reviewing video and interviewing witnesses as they investigated the shooting, which was reported at about 12:50 a.m. on Saturday morning, Erie police Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said. Police had made no arrests as of Monday afternoon.

Erie police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man at about 12:50 a.m. on Saturday in a residence in the 2900 block of French Street. The house was still being held as a crime scene on Monday.

The residence was cordoned off as a crime scene on Monday morning. Police were canvassing the neighborhood as well as interviewing witnesses and reviewing video from the area, Lorah said.

The shooting scene is just south of Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy. A steady stream of cars drove past the scene Monday morning as the cars left Collegiate after dropping off students at school.

Sims' death is the seventh homicide in Erie this year. The city had five homicides in 2022.
