Shower chances increasing starting today
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Our Thursday morning has started out with a few passing clouds and with temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s. As we go throughout the day, we’ll see a mixture of sunshine and passing clouds, before scattered showers and thunderstorms start to pop up this afternoon, bringing along some heavy rainfall in some spots.

First Alert: There’s a low flood risk to end the week
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - An upper-level ridge of High Pressure (or Heat Dome) continues to heavily influence our weather....keeping temps above average & rain chances low. Thursday, this high will continue it’s influence, but it will also be in the process of moving east and away from our area. So, by Friday, you’ll notice a change.

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Happy Tuesday and first official day of September!. Our Tuesday morning has started out with mostly clear skies and with temperatures in the lower 70s. As we go throughout the day, we’ll mainly see a mixture of sunshine and passing clouds, but we do have the potential for some isolated showers and storms to pop up this afternoon and this evening. Temperatures this afternoon will rise into the mid 90s, and heat index values will rise over 100 degrees. Tonight we’ll see a few passing clouds and temperatures will fall into the lower to mid 70s.

FIRST ALERT: Tropical Storm Dolly has formed in the central Atlantic Ocean
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Tropical Storm Dolly officially formed Thursday morning, making this our fourth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane season. Showers and thunderstorms within this area of low pressure located in the central Atlantic have become more organized over the past 24 hours, helping this storm reach tropical storm strength.

Final weekend of August ending with seasonable temps
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Happy Friday! TGIF!. Our Friday morning has started out with passing clouds and with temperatures in the lower 70s. We also dealt with some areas of fog that had built up across portions of central and eastern Mississippi and western Alabama earlier this morning, but visibility has since improved.

A tropical depression or Tropical Storm Dolly could from over the next day or so.
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - We’ve been monitoring a tropical disturbance (Invest 96L) that recently moved off the African Coast. It’s in an area that’s favorable for development, and most forecast models are leaning towards this becoming the next tropical depression or tropical storm over the next day or so. If it gets a name, it’ll be called Dolly.

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - We’re in a rather unsettled pattern this week, and this is leading to daily rain chances. Yet, the rain chances will increase for Wednesday & Thursday due to an upper-level disturbance sliding into the region along with a surface cold front approaching the area (and eventually stalling).

First Alert: Localized flooding is possible this week due to rounds of rain
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - An umbrella is a must-have this week. No day will be a actual wash-out, but daily rain chances are in the forecast. We’re on the eastern edge of the “heat dome” that’s centered over the Southern Rockies. So, disturbances to our NW could easily get steered into our area as they travel around the heat dome. Plus, ample moisture, local frontal boundaries, and the heat of the day could all help to trigger showers & storms.
