Trio of Cozad Teachers Retire After 106 Years of Combined Service
Three Cozad Community School teachers retired at the end of the 2022-2023 school year. Receiving accolades for their combined 106 years of service in the teaching profession with 82 of these years in Cozad were Heidi Cover, 5th-grade teacher (33 years); Stacy Hickenbottom, Middle School Resource (28 years); and Pam Laird, 1st-grade teacher (21 years).

Cozad’s Memorial Day Service is scheduled for Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Cozad. The Avenue of Flags will be put out at Veterans Memorial Park on Friday, May 24 at 4 p.m., weather permitting. Volunteers are needed to put out the flags and poles and then again to take them down on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27 at 5 p.m.

Lexington woman arrested on motor vehicle homicide charges
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A Lexington woman faces charges of motor vehicle homicide in the death of a Lexington man. According to the Lexington Police Department, 42-year-old Vilma Almanza Siles and her partner 38-year-old Yuniesky Diaz Gomez got into an argument while arriving at their home early Sunday. Siles attempted to leave. Gomez then stepped in front of the vehicle to prevent Siles from leaving and was struck by the moving vehicle.

Wyatt Hosick: March's Elks Student of the Month
Wyatt Hosick, a 2024 graduate of Cozad High School, was selected as one of the two Elks Students of the Month for March. Wyatt is the son of Trent and Elsie Hosick. Elks Lodge No. 2250 in Cozad honors senior students in Dawson County each school year. School counselors from Cozad, Gothenburg, Eustis-Farnam, and Lexington hold meetings periodically throughout the school year where the Elks Students of the Month (ESMs) are chosen.
