    EOP to hold school supply giveaways for Southern Tier families in need

    SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. ( WETM ) — Chemung and Schuyler County families struggling to afford school supplies might be eligible for one of the Economic Opportunity Program (EOP)’s giveaways.

    The EOP is holding two back-to-school giveaway events in Elmira and one in Montour Falls in August. Participants will receive free meals, school supplies, backpacks, and more while supplies last. Families must meet income requirements and bring proof of income to be eligible for the giveaways. The following will be accepted as proof of income: pay stubs, taxes, and HEAP or SNAP award letters.

    The income requirements for family sizes are listed below:

    1 $2,430 or below
    2 $3,287 or below
    3 $4,143 or below
    4 $5,000 or below
    5 $5,857 or below
    6 $6,713 or below
    7 $7,570 or below
    8 $8,427 or below
    More Add $857 per additional person

    Only Chemung County residents can attend the Elmira giveaways, and only Schuyler County residents can attend the Montour Falls giveaway.

    The Elmira events will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ernie Davis Community Center, located at 650 Baldwin St., on Aug. 7 and Aug. 22. The Montour Falls event will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Schuyler County Human Services Building, located at 323 Owego St., on Aug. 22.
