Georgina Garcia said her husband was hit along Route 100 in Elkridge when pushing his daughter's car to the side of the road after it broke down.

"Insurances are blaming everything on Carlos just because the car died and he didn't have his hazard light on," Garcia said. "It's very frustrating, because that person is not trying to take responsibility for their action."

Now, after 14 surgeries, including rebuilding his skull and more to go — Bonilla is home.

"For the kids, it's been hard having a father who doesn't remember you, or having a husband that doesn't remember your name," Garcia said.

She said the healing process is not only challenging for her husband, but expensive. Adding that the family is at a make-or-break point.

"We started to lose everything, slowly. Electric bill — it's going to be shut off next week if we don't pay it. Our home — if I can't make the payments, soon we'll be out of our house," Garcia said.

Even now, they're not giving up hope as Bonilla takes steps toward recovery. They're trying to reach out to the community through social media, including Facebook and TikTok.

"We don't have nothing to fall back on, other than the community now," she said.

Garcia is now trying to go back to work and get her husband to a facility that will help him. But she said it will cost nearly $50,000.
