Elkhart Police are investigating a series of break-ins over the holiday weekend.
The entire incident was caught on camera and is now gaining some traction on social media.
The thefts happened at the building right on East Bristol Street, according to business owner Casie Smith.
She also says shocked by the outpouring of support, as concerned community members are trying to help find who's responsible.
Money, checks, and jewelry stolen, and damage left behind when a man entered a building on East Bristol Street in Elkhart over the holiday weekend.
“We were totally scared and creeped out. Can't believe this is happening. We love our little area here. We are here with other businesses, and we have always felt safe,” said Smith.
The building houses six local businesses, whose owners are now in shock.
“You work so hard for your business and your clients, you want them to feel safe...I just want to shed light on this...you never think it’s going to happen to you,” said Smith.
The building manager says the suspect entered through a back door and proceeded into the different business suites, but not before being caught by the security camera inside.
That footage has quickly circulated on social media.
Smith says the outpouring from the community has turned a devastating situation into something more positive.
Smith and all the other business owners say they're thankful for the support and for every bit of information that helps police track down that suspect.
“Nothing good comes out of what he is doing, and there around enough good people in this community and that care. He is not going to get away with it and he should really put his time into doing something good,” said Smith.
Elkhart Police tell WSBT this is an ongoing and active investigation, and a person of interest is currently in custody, but he has not been arrested or charged in connection with this investigation.
