Elkhart's fire department is looking to change fire house locations as the city grows.

At a public meeting on Thursday night, neighbors learned about the proposed site of fire station 6, currently at Osolo Road and Bristol Street.

The Fire Chief said the proposed site is on Ada Drive which is north and east of the current station.

The current station 6 isn’t large enough to accommodate both a fire engine and ambulance.

A new station 6 would include both.

Plans are also in the works to relocate Elkhart’s fire station 5, also to the east of its current site.
