A paddleboarder discovered a body in the St. Joseph River near Edgewater Park and called 911 before 4 Sunday afternoon.

Police and first responders pulled a man's body from the water shortly after and the coroner was called.

Per protocol, the Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated to handle the investigation.

At this point, the cause of death isn't known and authorities don't believe there's any immediate danger to the public.

The name of the man found in the river is being withheld until police can notify their family.
