Authorities investigate afternoon fatal shooting in N.J. city

Detectives are investigating a shooting that turned fatal in an industrial section of Elizabeth on Wednesday afternoon, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel said.

City police responded to reports of gunshots near the 700 block of Dowd Avenue at 1:23 p.m., officials said.

Officers located a 44-year-old man who had sustained gunshot wounds, authorities said. He succumbed to his injures and was pronounced dead on the scene, officials said.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing. The Union County Prosecutor’s Office is asking anyone with information to call detective Sonia Rodriguez at 908-341-3380 or submit a tip anonymously by calling 908-654-TIPS (8477).
