Girl Scouts Sold Cookies at the Main Street Market
The Girl Scouts were the first to reserve the Main Street Square to sell some of the last of their cookies for this selling season. They had a special guest visitor stop by and visit- Sheriff Deputy Unke. They had a wonderful visit and made a sale. And of course, they paused for a photo op as well. If your non-profit would like to use the Main Street Square and building for an event, please contact the City of Preston to get on the calendar.
Miles Lumber Had Huge Turnout for Greenhouse Opening
The Miles Lumber Company hosted a grand-opening event for their new greenhouse on the property. It was reported that over 100 individuals were waiting for the gates to open at the start of the 2-hour event. There were a variety of plants and gardening materials available, and people were quite happy with the choices that they had from a local vendor. Supporting local business was a high priority.
Spragueville Legion and Auxiliary Plan Memorial Day
The Spragueville Legion and Auxiliary met on April 12th at Geno’s to discuss donations we would like to make and plans for Memorial Day weekend. The following organizations were given donations: Spragueville Community Center, Spragueville Cemetery, Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, North Bend One Room School and Dolly Parton Imagination Library via the Preston Library.

Easton Valley Cornhole Tournament Champs
The 6th annual Easton Valley High School cornhole tournament is in the books! This year’s champions are Aiden Eickert, Justin Weistfenning, and Jeremy Weistfenning! This group made their way back into the championship by coming up through the loser’s bracket. They had to upset the team of Nolan Sandholdt, Callan Messerich and Carter Ross to claim the championship title!

Softball Game Preview: Cuba City Hits the Road
Cuba City and Southwestern are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Cuba City Cubans will head out on the road to face off against the Southwestern Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cuba City is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
R.P. Lumber acquiring Mount Carroll Home Center
This single-location acquisition bolsters Edwardsville-based retailer’s ability to service Northwestern Illinois. R.P. Lumber Co., Inc. is slated to acquire the Mount Carroll Home Center, an independently owned retailer of hardware, lumber, and building materials in Mount Carroll, Ill. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The transaction, scheduled to close on Friday, May 17, marks R.P. Lumber’s fourth acquisition this year and its first location in Carroll County.
