* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.
* WHERE...Portions of northeast North Carolina, including the
following areas, Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Eastern Currituck, Gates,
Hertford, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans and Western
Currituck and southeast Virginia, including the following areas,
Chesapeake, Greensville, Hampton/Poquoson, Isle of Wight, James
City, Newport News, Norfolk/Portsmouth, Southampton, Suffolk,
Surry, Sussex, Virginia Beach and York.
* WHEN...Through this evening.
* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- The axis of heavy rain will shift east as the cold front
approaches and remain across the eastern portion of the local
area through the day today. An additional 1.5 to 2.5 inches
of rain is expected across southeast Virginia and northeast
North Carolina, with localized higher amounts possible.

The N.C. Highway Patrol said a Virginia man was killed in a two-vehicle collision in the southbound lanes of the U.S. Highway 17 Bypass near Elizabeth City, Tuesday. The accident involved a 2017 Ford Transit van (shown at left) and a commercial road grader owned by a private construction firm. The tractor trailer shown in the photo was not involved in the cause of the accident.
A Virginia man was killed after the vehicle he was driving collided with a commercial road grader on U.S. Highway 17 Bypass near Elizabeth City, Tuesday.
The accident occurred just before 11 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the bypass and within site from the nearby Halstead Boulevard Extended overpass. Authorities closed the southbound lanes to traffic till the scene had been cleared.
