First Alert Weather Day; widely scattered severe thunderstorms possible this evening | 11/02 AM
LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) -It’s a First Alert Weather Day today as we have the chance of seeing widely scattered severe storms later this afternoon and evening. This morning feels more like April than November with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s and muggy conditions. Winds are breezy out of the south sustained between 10 to 20 mph. They will be out of the southwest later on today between 10 to 25 mph, gusting to 40 mph at times. During the afternoon hours, we will be looking for storm initiation to start somewhere near the I-44 corridor or just to the east of it. This is where the biggest question mark is currently as cloud cover will prevent storm formation during the late morning and early afternoon hours. These storms will likely be supercells and discrete at first. The main threats are up to 75 mph winds, up to golf ball sized hail, and isolated tornadoes. Later on, these storms will likely form a broken line as it exits our area to the I-35 corridor. Not everyone will see activity as these storm will be widely scattered. We cool off behind the cold front tonight and into your Tuesday morning with gusty northwest winds. Partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies will be expected for your Tuesday.
