New owners plan to bring restaurant brand back to Wichita Falls

An El Chico restaurant will return to Wichita Falls, according to the Tex-Mex franchise’s new local owners. Donny and Kelli Long plan to open the Dallas-based company’s franchise in the same location it formerly occupied, 2801 Southwest Parkway. Kelli Long said Monday construction was beginning immediately with plans for the business to open after the first of the new year. She said she and her husband bought the franchise and intend for the restaurant to be “the same pretty much” as it was prior to closing in April 2023 . “We’re going to add a few things like steaks and making the bar area bigger,” she said. Donny Long said he intends to have meat cooked on wood. "I think any kind of meat cooked on wood tastes a lot better," he said. He said quality food, quality of people who operate the business, cleanliness and atmosphere are the things that make a restaurant successful. Kelli Long said the couple was inspired to reopen the restaurant because it was one of their favorites. “We used to go there every Friday night and we started talking about it. I don’t know, I guess we just acted on what we talked about,”
