Graduation 2023: Meet Jordan-Elbridge High School valedictorian, salutatorian

We asked two of Jordan-Elbridge High School’s top students interesting questions about themselves and they provided answers that shine a light on their plans for the future and unique personalities.

Valedictorian

Name: Katherine Dristle

Parents: Heather and Brian Dristle

Your plans in the next few years: My plans are to attend SUNY Geneseo majoring in biology/pre-vet.

What are your career plans? My career plan is to attend veterinary school and become an equine veterinarian.

Do you have any advice for underclassmen? My advice for underclassmen is to enjoy every moment in high school because before you know it, it’s gone.

What was the highlight of your senior year? The highlight of my senior year was winning national hippology, which is an equine knowledge event through 4-H.

Who has inspired you the most and why? My family has inspired me the most because they have always pushed me to do the best I can and have always supported me.

What do you do to unwind or relax? I enjoy reading, riding and taking care of horses, walking my dog and watching television shows to relax.

What word or phrase best describes your personality? Determined

What’s the most important or sentimental thing you are taking from home when you leave for college? A framed picture of my family.

What do you envision your life being like when you are the same age your parents are now? By my parents’ age, I hope to be an equine veterinarian, be married and have kids.

What’s the one thing you learned by the end of your high school career that you wish you knew at the start? Don’t worry about what everyone thinks of you, just be yourself and you will find good friends.

If nothing else, what is the one thing you hope to accomplish in your lifetime? One thing I hope to accomplish in my lifetime is to make a positive impact on others.

Salutatorian

Name: Jack Barrigar

Parents: Loren and Mary Barrigar

Your plans in the next few years: Attend college for business/economics.

What are your career plans? I think I don’t have enough experience in any aspect to know my career plans, but I’m confident that my studies will guide me to where I want to be.

Do you have any advice for underclassmen? “Win the day.”

What was the highlight of your senior year? The great success that I, and our team, had in the basketball season.

Who has inspired you the most and why? I’m inspired by someone or something different every day. Taking inspiration out of everything I possibly can is my greatest motivator.

What do you do to unwind or relax? I enjoy outdoor activities, like playing sports.

What word or phrase best describes your personality? Buffoon

What’s the most important or sentimental thing you are taking from home when you leave for college? I’d probably say my toothbrush.

What’s the one thing you learned by the end of your high school career that you wish you knew at the start? To be less apprehensive. Let yourself be more open to your environment and enjoy it.

If nothing else, what is the one thing you hope to accomplish in your lifetime? To travel abroad. Traveling and seeing new landmarks and people is a top goal of mine.
