Fire near Simla in Colorado about 90 percent contained Thursday evening

ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - A fire was burning in Elbert County near Simla on Thursday.

A spokesperson with Elizabeth Fire said the blaze is about two to three miles south of the town and a shelter is at Elbert County Fairgrounds. At one point Thursday afternoon, the entire Town of Simla was evacuated. At about 6:15 p.m. the evacuation order was lifted. As of 8:15 p.m., the fire was about 90 percent contained. The estimated size will likely change, but at last report at about 4 p.m. officials estimated about 600 acres.

Simla is located northeast of El Paso County along Highway 24.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department sent two brush trucks, an engine and a battalion chief to assist.
