A 28-year-old man from El Paso was arrested after he allegedly threw a kitten against a wall and attacked his girlfriend, according to New Mexico court documents.
Roberto Valles was taken into custody Thursday by Las Cruces police.
Valles reportedly threw the kitten at a wall after getting into an argument about having to leave his girlfriend to go to his dad's house in El Paso on June 1, court documents stated.
Valles' girlfriend told officers the cat was limping after the incident.
She told police she began to drive Valles to El Paso along with the cat when he argued again and attempted to take her keys.
Court documents state Valle bit his girlfriend's arm multiple times while trying to get the keys from her.
The victim said she pulled the car over at Si Senor Express on Solano and Lohman and started yelling for help.
Valles allegedly placed her in a headlock.
The victim got out of the car and said Valles got in the driver's seat and attempted to leave, according to court documents.
She jumped in the backseat while Valles began driving and she told police she called 911 for help.
Valles pulled over on Lees Drive, allegedly took his girlfriend's phone and threw it on the roof of a home.
Valles then drove away with the kitten still in the car, the victim said.
He was arrested on North Mesquite Street and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
Valles was charged with extreme cruelty to animals, battery of a household member, robbery and interference with communications, court records show.
