Make way for the Deadhead Express: Cheyenne’s downtown trick-or-treat gets an interactive makeover
CHEYENNE — In the 1860s, 12 passengers on the Cheyenne Railroad missed their train. Not knowing what to do, they wandered into downtown. And, of course, they got lost. Now their fates are in the hands of trick-or-treaters. The weekend before Halloween, kids and their families can head downtown for Cheyenne’s annual trick-or-treat tradition, where local businesses open their doors to give kids in costume — and perhaps a few adults with a sweet tooth — an early treat before Halloween. Corey Loghry, vice president of event host DowntownFirst, said last year, downtown was packed. It was nice, she said — but that was it. The downtown owners echoed Loghry’s concern. They needed to make the event more memorable and engaging for families. So, on Oct. 24, the annual downtown trick-or-treat is turning into an interactive experience: the Deadhead Express. On the Saturday before Halloween, trick-or-treaters will have an additional task: gather at the Cheyenne Depot, collect a golden ticket and set out to find the missing passengers, who have been wandering around since the 1860s. If they choose to accept this mission, they’ll find themselves transported to downtown Cheyenne of the past — with rewards far more decadent than

Orchard Hills data center approved on final vote despite persistent resident opposition
CHEYENNE — Members of the Cheyenne City Council took the final vote on four items Monday evening related to the long-contested Orchard Hills data center adjacent to the Orchard Valley residential area, leading to approval of the development. The items were annexation, zoning the land to agricultural and subsequently rezoning it to light industrial, and a future land-use map amendment from mixed-use residential to mixed-use employment for the property, which is located west of South Greeley Highway, south of West College Drive, and southwest of and adjacent to the intersection of Apple Street and York Avenue. The votes followed a lengthy public comment period, during which residents argued over whether a data center or residential development would be a better fit for the area. Opposition remains strong Several Orchard Valley residents and others in nearby neighborhoods opposed the data center development, saying they moved to the area for its rural atmosphere, and they were concerned about what impacts industrial development might have. Heather Madrid, a resident in the area who frequently speaks in opposition to data centers, referenced developer Trammell Crow Company’s proposed community benefits agreement. The agreement includes extending the Greater Cheyenne Greenway, improving Orchard Valley’s water system and
