Letter from Mayor Axmacher Regarding Timnath Elementary School
Like many of you, I was saddened to learn of the recommendation from Poudre School District to close Timnath Elementary School starting with the 2027-2028 school year. For generations, Timnath Elementary has been an essential part of our community. It is where many Timnath children begin their educational journey, where friendships are formed, where families come together, and where lifelong memories are made. The school represents far more than a place of education. It represents a connection to one another, to tradition, and to the people who make Timnath such a wonderful place to call home. In many ways, our town has grown around the school. It is a central part of who we are.

East senior Trace Eldridge showcased play-making ability in OT win over Central
CHEYENNE — Quarterbacks are often some of the best athletes on a football team. They also know their teams’ offenses inside and out. That’s why Cheyenne East football coach Chad Goff hasn’t been shy about moving quarterbacks to wide receiver during his time at the helm. He wants his best athletes on the field instead of sitting on the sideline waiting for the quarterback job to become available. Several of those converts eventually moved back behind center. Trace Eldridge only fits part of that bill. The senior moved from wide receiver to quarterback this offseason. He had never played quarterback at any level of football as far back he can remember. “I was always either a running back or receiver,” Eldridge said. Eldridge started this season in a three-way battle for playing time at quarterback. He showed the traits that helped him win that responsibility during the Thunderbirds’ 27-24 come-from-behind overtime victory against Cheyenne Central. Eldridge rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. That included the game-tying score during the fourth quarter, and the game-winning touchdown in overtime. Eldridge also posted 11 tackles (eight solo) to help East extend its winning streak over its cross-town rival to

Analyst: School phone bans fail to address deeper issues
(The Center Square) – As more states ban phones in K-12 classrooms to reduce distractions and improve student engagement, an analyst says these policies do not address the deeper academic problems facing students. At the same time, studies are warning of the harmful impacts of students spending too much time on their cellphones. In 2026, nearly 40 states have proposed restrictions on student cellphone use in K-12 public schools, with around 20 states and Washington, D.C., implementing strict bell-to-bell phone bans for the entire school day. The policies come as schools and leaders worry about student attention and engagement as test scores continue to decline. The Center Square previously reported on a National Library of Medicine Digital Detox study . “Excessive use of social media platforms and digital technology, often driven by habitual scrolling due to adaptive feed experiences, has been linked to anxiety, sleep disturbances, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors while also exacerbating mental health concerns," according to the study. Jared Cooney Horvath, author of the "Digital Delusion," argued that decades of research link increased technology and screen use with declines in children’s cognitive development and learning outcomes. Horvath, a Harvard-trained neuroscientist, said screens can sometimes aid basic skills but generally
