Motorcyclist dies in crash on Hwy 80(WTOC)

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A motorcyclist has died after a crash on Highway 80 on Thursday night, according to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office says the motorcyclist was traveling on Highway 80 near Meldrim Road when he tried to pass a tractor-trailer.

The motorcyclist crashed head on into another vehicle. The sheriff’s office says the motorcyclist died at the scene. He has been identified as 58-year-old James Martin.

The sheriff’s office said Martin’s wife, who was riding a separate motorcycle, crashed due to debris from the crash. She was taken to the hospital with possibly serious injuries.

The driver of the car was also taken to a hospital for treatment. Two passengers in the car said they had minor injuries.

Highway 80 reopened just before 2 a.m. on Friday.
