High School Softball: Leo tops DeKalb to claim NE8 title
LEO-CEDARVILLE, Ind. (WFFT) — The Leo softball team claimed the Northeast 8 conference title outright on Monday with a 7-1 victory over DeKalb. Madyn Mohr, Lillian Pierce, Summer McDougall-Gerig and Kristian Bond each had an RBI in the win for the Lions, who claim their second NE8 title in the past three seasons. Mackenzie Arroyo led the way in the circle for the Lions, throwing 6.2 innings, allowing an unearned run on one hit to go along with 15 strikeouts.
Softball Game Recap: Edgerton Takes a Loss
After flying high against Edon last Friday, Edgerton came back down to earth. The Edgerton Bulldogs fell just short of the Hilltop Cadets by a score of 5-4 on Monday. Edgerton was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Hilltop apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March.
Trine to host NCAA DIII regional this week
ANGOLA, Ind. (WFFT) — The Trine University softball team secured an automatic bid to the 2024 NCAA Division III Softball Championship by capturing their third straight Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Softball Tournament Championship this past weekend. They learned this morning that they will host a four-team regional beginning on Thursday, May 16.

Sunday Chat with Evergreen graduate, national title coach Brooks Miller
Brooks Miller is still living his basketball dream, and back on March 16 it bordered on fantasy when his 13th-ranked, 29-4 Trine University men's basketball team of Angola, Ind., won the NCAA Division III national championship, beating top-ranked Hampden-Sydney College 69-61 in the title game in Fort Wayne, Ind. The 1999 Evergreen High School graduate, who just completed his 13th season as the Thunder head coach (226-116 record), guided Trine to six wins in the 64-team tournament and a title in its first NCAA tourney appearance. Trine entered the NCAA tourney as an at-large selection after losing to Hope College, 72-68 in overtime, in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament final. Miller, 43, was named National Association of Basketball Coaches Division III national coach of the year, and received the Glenn Robinson Award as the nation's top NCAA Division III coach for 2023-24.
