WILDFIRE UPDATE: Counties lift evacuations as fire threats recede near Ukiah
UKIAH — County officials lifted all remaining evacuation statuses associated with the Battle Mountain Complex of wildfires near Ukiah, the Oregon Department of Forestry reported in an update Saturday morning, Aug. 17. But firefighters are at the ready to take on more fire activity as conditions dry and the wind increases during the day.

Man arrested for DUII after incident on W. 11th
At 8:31 a.m. on August 16, Eugene Police was dispatched to locate a possibly intoxicated driver. A white BMW SUV X3 was reported to have been doing ‘donuts in the intersection of W. 11th and Beltline and subsequently crashed into a light pole and was leaking fluids on the south side of W. 11th near the LTD bus stop.

Deputies attempting to locate suspect in multiple vehicle break-ins (Photo)
On July 21st, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of vehicles being broken into in the McKenzie Bridge area. A local business owner first observed the suspect vehicle driving through the area early in the morning. When he learned of the break-ins, he contacted one of the McKenzie River District Deputies.

On August 15, 2024 around 1650hrs, Springfield Police Department Officers arrived at 1920 Olympic St regarding a possible overdose. Eugene Springfield Fire was on scene prior to officer arrival providing medical attention to the male victim.
WILDFIRE UPDATE: Rain provides relief for fires near Ukiah
UKIAH — The northern half of the wildfire near Ukiah received a quarter to a half inch of rain Thursday, Aug. 15, in many of the drainages that have been smoldering. The Oregon Department of Forestry in an update Aug. 16 on the Battle Mountain Complex of fires also reported firefighters continued to work on repairing any damage from suppression effort across the entire fire. The group working on back-up fire lines around Penland Lake also continued removing trees, brush and other vegetation.

Labor Day DUII enforcement to begin August 16
The Eugene Police Department will be participating in a high visibility DUII overtime enforcement event through Oregon Impact DUII Grant that will begin on August 16 and continue through September 1. This grant enables the department to staff DUII patrols above the normal strength during the period of high visibility to ensure enough officers available to identify, stop and process impaired drivers. Impaired driving continues to be a significant and preventable problem in our community, and there are several things you can do to help:

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office Cadet Program trains young men and women between the ages of 18 and 21 for a career in law enforcement. Our Cadet Program provides an opportunity to get first-hand experience and develop skills and knowledge necessary for full-time employment. Although being a Cadet is not a pre-requisite to becoming a Deputy Sheriff, it is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience for a successful career.
