Frost/Freeze potential tonight with a chilly and windy Friday on tap

WHAT WE ARE TRACKING: A colder airmass invades the regions on Friday and remains over the weekend, resulting in windy/breezy conditions and frost/freeze potential at night.

NEXT 24 HRS: M ostly clear skies overnight, with temperatures falling back into the 30s, with some of the colder locations, dipping into the upper 20s. Winds increase out of the west of northwest by Friday morning, eventually exceeding 20 mph by noon with gusts above 35 mph. This is in response to a cold front passing just northeast of the area. Cloud cover increases by late morning with a some flurries or sprinkles possible, especially northeast of Eau Claire through the afternoon. Under these conditions, temperatures struggle to get out of the 40s. Cloud cover and winds decrease on Friday evening.

LOOKING AHEAD: This chilly airmass resides over the area through the weekend, with highs struggling to get to 50 degrees on Saturday (50s on Sunday) with sub-freezing overnight low temperatures. Seasonable, or the 60s return for most of next week, with a warming trend towards the end of the week. A system brings showers to the region from late Monday through Tuesday morning. Multiple systems bring additional showers and potential thunderstorms by Thursday and Friday and for the weekend. Along with the unsettled weather, milder temperatures are expected, with some areas hitting or exceeding 70 degrees.
