St. Luke's cuts ribbon at Smithfield Gateway Health Center

St. Luke's Smithfield Gateway Health Center hosted a packed house for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the new facility in Monroe County.

The facility is located at 125 Smithfield Lane in East Stroudsburg and is set to open April 3. It will offer an array of outpatient healthcare services.

The new 40,000-square foot center will offer a blend of new practices and services with several that are relocating to the site in an effort to give patients greater access to different providers in one place.

Services to be offered include St. Luke's Medical Associates of Monroe County, which will be renamed St. Luke's Smithfield, primary care, obstetrics and gynecology, Pocono pediatrics, dermatology, pulmonology, laboratory services, diabetes, endocrinology, the St. Luke's Smithfield Gateway Women's Imaging Center, occupational medicine and physical therapy at St. Luke's, which will now have a neuro rehab center, imaging services, and a walk-in X-Ray.

St. Luke's Care Now is also at the Smithfield gateway, where no appointment is needed.

"This is just the beginning of a larger development here at the (Smithfield Gateway). That was one of the reasons we chose this site is because we wanted to be part of something bigger," said President of St. Luke's Monroe Campus Don Seiple, noting that incoming retail and housing to the Gateway was a draw for St. Luke's.

"We felt it was really a good fit for us as well as serving many of the residents who come down from Rt 209." he continued. "St. Luke's is committed to Monroe County's residents and looks forward to serving our patients and families here."

Jennifer Janco is Chair of St. Luke's Pediatrics and a resident of Monroe County. "We know that quality care for children is rooted in providing exceptional care for pregnant mothers and their families." Janco said. "And we're going to be able to do that in this building."

Janco emphasized the essential need to have primary care pediatrics for children, from newborns through teenagers that is accessible.

"We provide preventative care, including immunizations, and we do that to promote children's physical and emotional well-being, but we're also here to address the inevitable, the illnesses, and the injuries that are going to occur." Janco said. "And that goes beyond what we provide with our pediatric services here, the convenience of having a walk-in lab and X-ray services as well as urgent care for all ages, including pediatrics is going to be a welcome addition to this community.

"I invite this community to spend some time with the people working in this building," she said. "Schedule that physical, that you haven't been doing. Come get that mammogram that you've been putting off. Go for that blood work that you've been needing and of course, get your children to come see us. It very well may be life-changing for you and your families."

According to Timothy Miller, an Executive Director with St Luke's Physical Therapy, this state of the art facility is their 56th physical therapy office at St. Luke's network and it will be only their sixth dedicated neuro rehab office.

"We will be bringing our nationally-ranked patient outcomes to this new office group, where we'll be able to offer rehab services to patients with a variety of neurologic conditions including Parkinson's, MS, concussions, strokes or others. We will offer a full array of neuro rehab services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy to the residents of Monroe County. We look forward to bringing these necessary services to this community."

The event, presented by the Pocono Chamber of Commerce, drew a crowded room, filled with St. Luke's staff, local politicians and business leaders.
