THE SCENE FOR QUESTIONING. A MONROEVILLE MAN HAS DIED FOLLOWIG A HIT AND RUN CRASH IN EAST PITTSBURGH. IT HAPPENED HERE ALONG BRADDOCK AVENUE. POLICE SAY 72-YEAR-OLD JAMES HABERFIELD WAS HEADING SOUTH, WHEN A DRIVER CROSSED THE CENTER LINE AND STRUCK HABERFIELD’S CAR. PUSHING IT INTO A CONCRETE BARRIER. HE LATER DIED AT THE HOSPITAL. POLICE SAY THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER CAR RAN FROM THE SCENE

A Clairton man has been arrested and is accused in a 2021 hit-and-run crash that left one man dead.Pittsburgh police arrested Robert Alexander Thornhill, 26, on Thursday. He is charged with causing a fatal accident, careless driving, driving with a suspended license and failing to immediately notify police.Watch our original report on the crash from 2021 in the video player above.The crash occurred at Braddock and Cable avenues in East Pittsburgh on the afternoon of Oct. 9, 2021. According to Thornhill's complaint, after police were called to the crash, they encountered an abandoned Porsche Macan and a damaged Kia Optima. One witness reported Thornhill telling the driver, "I'll give you $1000 for a ride to get me out of here." The driver then took Thornhill to the Rolling Woods apartment complex.Police say Thornhill was on parole and being monitored with an ankle bracelet at the time of the crash.After preliminary arraignment Thursday, Thornhill is being housed in the Allegheny County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 28.
