Brownwood tennis comes up short at district foe Lampasas, 12-7
LAMPASAS – The Brownwood High tennis team was dealt its first District 6-4A setback Thursday, dropping a 12-7 road match to Lampasas. Brownwood picked up a win in mixed doubles from Trine Baugh and Ihana Figueroa (6-4, 3-6, 10-2 over Clements and Guzman), and the Lions added two victories in doubles action from No. 1 River Prado and Tyler Mitchell (3-6, 6-3, 10-3 over Ashfield and Copeland), and No. 3 Caleb Dietlin and Blake Hutchins (6-4, 7-5 over Ecker and Pronovost).
Bulldogs Shut Out Howard Payne, 2-0, to Remain Perfect
BROWNWOOD, Texas — Texas Lutheran men’s soccer concluded its season opening seven-match road trip with its seventh straight victory to start the 2023 season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Howard Payne Tuesday evening in Brownwood. The shutout is the Bulldogs fifth in seven matches in 2023 as they remain unblemished at 7-0 while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-5. For the fourth straight match, Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford), this week’s SCAC Offensive Player of the Week, netted a goal for the Bulldogs – scoring on a penalty kick in the 15th minute. Manke is now 3-for-3 on penalty kicks in 2023 and tied for the national lead in Division-III in the category while sitting in third in the SCAC in goals (4) and points (9).
Brownwood senior catcher Logan Posey commits to Western Texas College
Brownwood Lions senior catcher Logan Posey recently announced via social media his commitment to play baseball Western Texas College in Snyder. As a sophomore, Posey batted. 307 with a .341 on-base percentage, seven doubles, one triple and 16 RBIs. During his junior campaign, Posey was named the District 6-4A Defensive MVP as in league play he threw out 13 of 20 attempted base stealers and allowed just two passed ball in 79 innings. For the entire season, Posey threw out almost 30 base runners.
Undefeated Howard Payne is experienced, and it shows on the field

Lady Horns fall in straight sets to 8-3A foe Peaster
EARLY – The Early Lady Horns were unable to secure a second consecutive District 8-3A volleyball victory as Peaster dished out a 25-13, 25-12, 25-10 defeat Tuesday evening. HPU QB Bridwell named ASC Offensive Player of the Week
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Tucker Bridwell, QB, So., Howard Payne. Howard Payne sophomore quarterback Tucker Bridwell (Pampa, Texas) was 29 of 33 passing for 376 yards and five touchdowns. His 29 of 33 passing broke the HPU record for passing percentage in a game previously held by Thomas Head with 86.3% (19 of 22) back in 2012 versus Wayland Baptist. The margin of victory, 85-0, for the Yellow Jackets was the largest in the modern era for Howard Payne and also broke the ASC record by a point (Previous was Mary Hardin-Baylor vs. Albright with 84 on Sept. 8, 2018). HPU did defeat Tarleton State University 127-0 in 1912. The 85 points were six away from tying an ASC game record done by Hardin-Simmons (Nov. 2, 2019) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (Sept. 8, 2018).
