The driver was working along on Interstate 40, northwest of Earlsboro, when another driver crashed into him, killing him.

Tow truck drivers are there during some of our lowest moments.

“Today alone, I've already ran four calls, rendering service to people that were broke down, needed their cars towed to the dealership to be worked on, running out of gas. I mean, we do a variety of things for people,” Nicholas Geissler said.

Geissler said it's a dangerous job.

“Every six days, one of us is killed and unfortunately this time it was closer to home then I wish it ever would've been,” Geissler said.

Geissler is referring to his cousin Kyle McCollough who was hit and killed towing a car Tuesday night.

His mother's biggest fear became a reality. “He would do anything for you. He's got a kind heart. He was always there whenever I needed him,” Kathy Welch said.

His girlfriend said it all could've been prevented. “I was numb. I thought I was dreaming,” Christina Skaggs said.

The semi-truck driver, Shenjie Li was taken into custody not too far from the scene.

“When I heard about it I thought not again,” Rep. Neil Hays said.

Hayes has plans to amend the move over law so more first responders can make it home at the end of their shift.

“One you should move over if you can, period, but if you cannot and you end up driving in that adjacent lane beside those workers on our highways then the reduction of speed is 10 miles an hour below the posted speed limit,” Hays said.

It's called the John Mills bill, named after a tow trucker that was hit and killed last November.

“I've been hit three times in a parking lot. If you wouldn't want someone being that close to one of our family members don't be that close to us,” Geissler said.

All truckers are invited to a light the night event in honor of Kyle. It will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the Mr. Tow It All Wrecker's Service in Shawnee.
