FAYETTE CO. K-9 UNIT SEIZES 12 KILOS OF COCAINE DURING TRAFFIC STOP
An Eagle Pass woman was arrested over the weekend after being caught in possession of a dozen kilos of cocaine in Fayette County.
According to Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek, the Narcotics K-9 Unit of Sergeant Randy Thumann and Kolt stopped a silver Nissan Altima on I-10 just before noon on Saturday for a traffic violation.
Per the sheriff’s report, the driver and passenger displayed many criminal indicators, prompting a search of the vehicle after consent was granted. Kolt was deployed and alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics coming from underneath the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 12 kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of $480,000. The cocaine was concealed in an after-market compartment built into the exhaust tunnel.
The driver, 36-year-old Johanna Lizbeth Mendoza-Cuellar, was arrested for felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center. The passenger was released at the scene with no charges.
