The Seacoast high school Athletes of the Week winners for May 6-11 are Marshwood High School softball player Piper Catanese and Oyster River High School lacrosse player Alex Moody.

Catanese joins previous girls winners this spring: York softball player Sarah Orso, Exeter softball player Lila Smith, Marshwood lacrosse player Maddy Poitras and Spaulding softball player Maddie Hartman.

Moody joins Somersworth baseball player Simon Grandmaison, Exeter baseball player Cam Piwnicki, Marshwood baseball player Charlie Hudson and Dover lacrosse player Micah Krick as boys winners.

The weekly poll runs each Monday through midnight Thursday, and can be found at seacoastonline.com/sports and fosters.com/sports. The honors are presented by York County Community College.

More on girls winner Piper Catanese of Marshwood High School

Catanese won the online poll by securing over 42% of the online votes, for a total of 715, to win girls Athlete of the Week. Exeter lacrosse player Phoebe Christenson finished second with 601 votes.

Portsmouth track athlete Lily Jenkins had 150 votes, Winnacunnet track athlete Mia Lantaigne had 111 votes and Spaulding tennis player Maddy Gagnon had 105 votes.

Catanese collected four hits, had two RBI and stole three bases in Marshwood's 15-6 loss to Biddeford, extending her streak to reaching base in 15 consecutive at-bats over four games.

"Piper has had a great season and is one of our leaders," head coach Peter Eastman said. "This is a great compliment to the hard work she puts in to always trying to get better."

More on boys winner Alex Moody of Oyster River High School

Moody won the online poll by collecting over 30% of the online votes, totaling 262, to win boys Athlete of the Week. St. Thomas Aquinas baseball player Timmy Avery finished second with 212 votes.

Marshwood lacrosse player Jackson Hamilton had 176 votes, Traip Academy lacrosse player Joey Watts had 112 votes and Winnacunnet baseball player Miles Pratt had 108 votes.

Moody scored five goals to lead Oyster River to a 16-3 win over Merrimack Valley on Friday, and had four goals in the Bobcats' 13-6 win over Dover on Saturday. Moody also had two goals in Oyster River's 10-3 win over Keene/Monadnock on Monday.

"Alex is a scoring threat every time the ball is in the offensive end of the field," Oyster River head coach Ruppy Hailey said. :He’s deadly off ball with a quick release and a missile for a shot. He’s also deceiving with the ball as defenders sometimes think they’ve shut him down only to have him shoot from an odd angle or a low percentage area and score a goal. His performance during the past week is exactly what we’ve come to expect from him in regards to his goal scoring ability."
