Southeastern student vocalists shine

DURANT Seven student vocalists from Southeastern Oklahoma State University auditioned at the Oklahoma chapter conference and student auditions of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) at the University of Oklahoma earlier this month.

Of the seven students who auditioned at the conference, three Southeastern students advanced to the finals of the competition.

Averie Attaway, a sophomore from Sherman, Texas, and student of Dr. Jeremy Blackwood, placed third in the second-year treble category, and Diego Cruz Perez, a sophomore from Kingston and a student of Dr. Stella Yoon, placed third in the second-year TBB (tenor/bass/baritone) competition. Also advancing to the finals was Joseph Bowen, a junior from Denton, Texas.

Other Southeastern vocalists competing at the NATS conference were freshman Ryan Carlile of Wilson, senior Kameron Clinton of Memphis, junior Haylie Kreitz of Durant, and junior Binion Stephenson of Antlers.

Dr. Sunny Yun accompanied all seven Southeastern singers on piano at the event.

Founded in 1944, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Inc. is the largest professional association of teachers of singing in the world with more than 7,000 members in the United States, Canada, and nearly 30 other countries.
