After years of deliberation, production is set to take off in the summer of 2025 as the plot is currently being developed.

A source revealed that Warner Bros are pressured to meet up with the original’s standard, and production aims at striking while the “youth adventure” market is still hot. The sequel will not only maintain its original cast but also its movie production team.

Steven Spielberg produced the 1985 movie about a group of friends from Goon Docks in Astoria, Oregon, who went out treasure hunting and encountered a series of adventures. It featured the likes of Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin, and Jeff Cohen.

2023 Oscar award winner Ke Huy Quan also starred in the classic, with Ex-NFL star John Matuszak, who sadly passed away in 1989. The Goonies, which is the name of the group derived from their hometown, created the motto “Goonies never die,” which is known by fans of the movie.

Jeff is now an entertainment lawyer and a founding partner of Cohen & Gardner, LLP. Interestingly, he arranged the casting contract for Ke’s Oscar-winning role in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Kerri Green appeared in a few movies after The Goonies until her last in 2012, while Martha Plimpton did multiple shows, including the recent HBO miniseries The Regime.
