The guard changes at Illinois Shakespeare Festival
The Illinois Shakespeare Festival has named Robert Quinlan as its next artistic director. Quinlan will take over in the fall when current director John Stark retires. “The festival has had a deep impact on my life both artistically and personally. I aspire to build upon its impressive legacy. I believe in the essential power and value of live theater. Hamlet says of the traveling players who arrive at Elsinore, 'Let them be well used, for they are the abstract and brief chronicles of the time.' Family, friends come together to raise money for young B-N musician fighting leukemia
Family and friends came together Sunday at a fundraiser for Carlos Almanza, 19, a local musician who was recently diagnosed with cancer. More than a dozen booths were set up in the parking lot outside Bloomington's St. Mary’s Church, where community members sold tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, tamales, and other staples to patrons who purchased tickets. A raffle for kitchen items also was held, and there was live music.
