Flame of Hope carried to Ottawa by Douglas Co. law enforcement officials
LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) - The Flame of Hope for Special Olympics Kansas has been successfully carried to Ottawa by law enforcement officials throughout Douglas County. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says that on Tuesday, May 30, it joined the Lawrence Police Department to deliver the torch for the Kansas Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics to the Ottawa Police Department at Kalmar, 415 E. Dundee St. in Ottawa.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) - A Lawrence man has been sentenced to six years in prison for attempted second-degree murder. Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez announced on Friday, May 26 that Adam B. Amyx Jr., 38, of Lawrence, was sentenced to 72 months in prison for attempted second-degree murder of a female passerby he tried to throw into the Kansas River.

Memorial Day 5K to raise funds for Lawrence families seeking stable housing
Community members on Monday will aim for a “home run” in support of Lawrence and Douglas County families experiencing housing crises. The 5K Home Run annual event will serve as a fundraiser to benefit Family Promise of Lawrence, a local agency that works with families to help them find stability.
